Bringing Innovation Out Of The Dark
A Collaborative Approach To Both The Government
And The Private Sector
Following a long career in banking tech and policy, I was invited to The North Carolina Innovation Council to help identify the best ways to accelerate growth in Fintech and InsurTech, foster innovation and create jobs that keep pace with new technologies.
The Council's primary purpose is to promote innovation, investment, and job creation across North Carolina by facilitating participation in a regulatory "Sandbox." Our Sandbox enables innovators to test new products, services, or technology under a regulatory framework that is temporarily relaxed to encourage development and creativity.
The Sandbox acts like a perfectly cared-for and guarded laboratory. The acceleration of innovation is "incubated" that allows us time to gather information for testing, reformulating and transforming existing laws.
North Carolina is not the only state to propose and use Sandboxes. Arizona, Wyoming, Utah, Hawaii, The United Kingdom. Spain and Singapore have all used operations similar to a Sandbox. Several companies that have benefited from the Singapore Sandbox have expanded their coverage outside the country and spread across the globe. This would be interesting for North Carolina companies so that they can develop their products in other regions with new and potentially significant markets, such as Latin America, Central America, or Africa.
Each panel member has various expertise in fields relevant to fostering innovation, investment, and job creation. My purpose is to help with the search for strategies and recommendations, anticipate future crises, and contribute my knowledge in law and banking to accelerate innovation.
